Anne-Audrey Remarais

It started with a cornrow and unraveled into a flow of emotions and tensions. "Weaving Generations" is a gentle awakening to how my Black hair and its different stages mirror the timeline of my search for belonging and empowerment as a second-generation Haitian immigrant on Canadian soil. The repetitive rhythmic intricacies in the act of braiding and care allude to an Afrofuturist gateway – weaving ancestral knowledge into our current understanding, reimaging new futures and new ways of knowing. This interdisciplinary piece celebrates Black folks’ resistance and resilience in our survival of forced migration, from generation to generation.
